Jodie Campbell

Member for Bass (Tas.)

ALP, 2007–2010

Jodie Campbell was the Australian Labor Party member for Bass (Tas.) from 2007 to 2010. Campbell entered federal politics with local government experience, having been the Deputy Mayor of Launceston City Council. She supported legislation for the development of a national policy relating to occupational health and safety and the establishment of an independent statutory agency, Safe Work Australia, to undertake responsibility for workers’ safety and compensation. She also supported legislation creating a Commonwealth Dental Health Program, responding to climate change by supplying electricity through renewable energy sources and for the reform of services and pensions to veterans and war widows.

In her valedictory speech, Campbell spoke with pride about her work within her electorate to secure funding for health services. Campbell wore traditional Tasmanian Aboriginal shell necklaces made by Dulcie Greeno at her first speech and valedictory speech as a sign of her commitment to Aboriginal reconciliation.
